Welcome to Namboole, Uganda.

Geography

Uganda, twice the size of Pennsylvania, is in East Africa. It is bordered on the west by Congo, on the north by the Sudan, on the east by Kenya, and on the south by Tanzania and Rwanda. The country, which lies across the equator, is divided into three main areas—swampy lowlands, a fertile plateau with wooded hills, and a desert region. Lake Victoria forms part of the southern border.

Air Travel/Passport And VISA

All international visitors require a valid passport and visa for entry into Uganda. Citizens of many countries can obtain a visa for Uganda upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport. However, we recommend getting a visa a head of time if convenient to avoid long waits in line upon arrival. Please note that a single entry visa valid for one month at the airport in Entebbe is $50. If possible you should have the exact amount as change might not be at hand at the airport.

Medication/Vaccination

Participants residing from yellow fever prone areas are required to be inoculated against yellow fever and to carry valid yellow fever certificate. Regarding other recommended vaccinations, kindly consult your doctor. Where possible please carry a mosquito repellent just in case of some mosquitoes in the evenings. However, participants should seek help from the EXPO secretariat immediately should anyone sense a medical-related condition! The costs will be met by the participant.

Security

The security in Kampala is good at the moment but like many cities and hotels, it is important to be security conscious at all times. Common rules to guard yourself from being a victim include:

  • Do not walk alone at night outside the Hotel premises. Always use a recognized taxi service. Ask for assistance from the EXPO secretariat when not sure.
  • Be wary of people hanging around outside hotels.
  • Avoid carrying large sums of money. Expensive jewelry may attract unwelcome company.
  • Keep doors locked and valuables out of sight (rooms or vehicles).
  • Support Pork Expo Africa by booking with approved hotels/Guest Houses. Details on approved hotels will be published later. To get Expo rate, you must book by March 30th, 2018, but be sure to plan ahead — when rooms go quickly! Note: We do not coordinate with any hotel booking groups. All reservations must be made directly with the hotel.
